The SDP is fully sealed and fully machined, built specifically to excel in the harshest coastal, salt water conditions. Hard-coat-anodized, stealth black and smoke silver finish not only protects it from the elements but minimizes reflection over water. Its Tuff torque, center-shaft locks in precisely with the spool for maximum fighting power while handling explosive fish.

TRAXX Caps: These numeric TRAXX caps now pull double duty. First and foremost, they secure your spool to the reels frame without worry of losing them, thanks to the o-ring mounted system on the inside. Secondly, they give you the best way to keep track of what weight line you have on each spool. No more stickers to fall off or marker that vanishes over time. These interchangeable numbered-caps, we call TRAXX, stay on your spool, so you can be sure what line weight you put on it last.

Top Performance

I have been fly fishing for over ten years, and through those ten years I have had experience with countless big name brands and their products. I picked up one of these on sale at scheels. The first outing I had with this reel was on the North Platte and it put in work all day long pulling 20 inch plus rainbows out of heavy current. The drag on this reel is so smooth and has so many micro adjustments its not even funny. The adjustment in the drag are so fine that you have extreme control over the situation. Fishing rivers requires the ability to have a drag that is dynamic because even in the same catch the fish has the ability to use the fast current, or go to slow water and stay deep, or turn around and make a rip down river, having the extreme adjustability is essential for fighting big fish on the river and this reel has mastered it. As a guy that has used several high dollar brand name reels I would feel confident putting this up against anything on the market. Hands down the best fly reel I have ever had and is now the go to.

Huge performance @ low cost

The SDP reel is smooth as any other high dollar reel I’ve used! The drag dial is on point, increase or decrease it one click and you can feel the slight change. Handles the aggressive and acrobatic Deschutes redsides with ease, I have no reservations with this reel it will be the reel I get for my 8 wt when the time comes.
Super smooth and quick line pick up, you can slap the handle and the reel spins on the bearings like silk while it spoils up your slack to get tight to the fish to fight it on the amazing drag system.
If you are looking for a great reel at a great price this is it!

Workhorse

When hunting carp in the 20-30lb range I need a real I can count on. The SDX has claimed that spot. Picks up line fast, heavy duty design, and a drag I trust. Do your self a favor and fish Maxxon gear!

Got brakes, the SDP does!

The SDP has become my reel of choice. These reels have all the qualities I demand for myself and my customers. This is a fully machined and sealed reel that stands up to the demands of being put through the ringer daily. A super smooth drag with plenty of stopping power and generous backing capacity along with a lifetime warranty make this reel a no brainer for me. Go check one out, you won’t be disappointed. I forgot to mention the cost, no better value on the market.

Amazing Reel for Salt or Fresh!

The SDP reel is Maxxon’s newest machines reel that provides a very smooth drag system that will not disappoint! While this reel is made for the salt, I don’t fish the ocean very much so I got this reel in a 3/4 to use in fresh water streams around PA. This reel is so smooth and durable! This reel provides a completely sealed system and the drag can handle any sized fish! I highly recommend this reel for any salt or fresh water fisherman!
